The whitefly, also called whitefly, is a tiny insect that can be found on all plants and more particularly:

hibiscus, geranium, celandine, fuchsia and some garden vegetables like tomato.

After forming a large colony under the leaves, these insects suck the sap and cause it to die off. It also makes the leaves sticky and causes sooty mold to form.

A large invasion can threaten the life of the plant.

Conditions for the development of whitefly

Greenhouse cultivation and high temperatures are the main causes of the intrusion of whitefly on plants.

How to fight whitefly?

Traditional means such as insecticides or anti-aphids can be effective even if they only act on its adult form and not on the eggs.
In this case, treat for 2 to 3 weeks to 3 days apart.
Warning ! These products are often harmful to the air you breathe.

Organic treatments against whitefly

  • Set up whitefly traps. You will find in the Garden Center a sticky solution that you just need to apply to a yellow surface because this color attracts them.

  • Certain predatory insects can help eliminate them. This is the case with Encarsia Formosa, a small wasp that lays its eggs inside larvae, or Macrolophus Caliginosus, a green bug that feeds on these parasites.

  • Do not use inside a home.

  • You can finally spray an insecticidal soap containing permethrin. The latter solution has proven to be effective; in any case, isolate infected individuals in a cool room, as they need warmth to develop.
